During the pandemic, the activities of the Friends have largely been curtailed to making grants to individuals. We have, however, had a constant stream of requests for grants for a variety of needs, particularly from service-users living in the community who frequently do not have the means to buy the most basic requirements. Because of the demand on limited funds, we are restricting grants to £150, but we have developed a close partnership with Cambridge Aid with whom we are frequently joint funding grant requests.
Two years ago, we provided funding to improve the gardens at Springbank Ward, the results of which can be seen in photos posted on the website of that project.
Recently, the Ward approached us for some funding to create a Sensory Garden, and they have sent us the following photos of what they have achieved so far (it is a work in progress). We are told that service users on the Ward are happy and engaged in the project, and it shows how a little funding can go a long way – with the enthusiasm and imagination of the ward staff.
